Amie is a two time alumna of the University of Illinois, having earned a B.A. in English as well as a M.Ed in Diversity & Equity in Education. As an undergraduate student, Amie worked at the Women’s Resources Center as peer educator for the First Year Campus Acquaintance Rape Education (FYCARE) Program. Most recently, Amie taught English and Journalism at Oakwood High School, and she previously worked as a Graduate Assistant for Diversity and Social Justice Education coordinating I-Connect. In her new role at WRC, Amie will be leading our efforts to explore gender equity across all its many intersections and support the leadership of students of all genders as they work to improve campus climate and promote gender justice worldwide. Amie finds peace in a good book, a cup of tea, and cuddling with her cats; and, finds passion in powerful women, live music, and the Y Thai Eatery. 

Minsun (MK) Kim

Minsun (MK) Kim earned a B.S. in Supply Chain, Information, and Analytics with a minor in Human Resource Management from Purdue University.  Her experience working in the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities while an undergraduate at Purdue inspired her to shift careers to student affairs. While earning an M.A. in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education at Ball State University, MK worked as a graduate assistant in the Office of Victim Services where she facilitated educational programming on issues related to sexual violence and provided crisis response services to survivors.  

Danisha Collins

Danisha Collins is a licensed master's social worker with a concentration in Violence and Injury Prevention and a specialization in Sexual Health and Education. She is passionate about empowering youth and young adults of all identities and bodies towards radical self-love. She believes in the power of somatics, mindfulness and pleasure as a tool to heal our mind, body and spirit. She is a sexual health educator and advocate who values holistic sexual wellness that promotes inclusivity, sex positivity, diversity and medically accurate sexual education. Prior to transitioning to her new role, she was responsible for coordinating a comprehensive Sexual Health Education program and Sexual Health Wellness Peer Education group that actively engaged in outreach to raise awareness, promote safer sex practices and provide accessible sexual health resources. She has experience providing mental and sexual health therapy/counseling to support youth and young adults' overall health and wellbeing. She is a trained Birth Doula, who has supported birthing people and their families through the prenatal, labor/delivery and postpartum journey. She loves to sing, dance and explore her passion for sexuality, sensuality and spirituality. She would like to remind you all to give yourself grace, believe in your self-worth and never allow anyone to make you feel like your body is an apology. 

 

Nataly Meza

Nataly Meza (she/her) earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in December 2023. As an undergraduate, Nataly Worked for two years as a peer facilitator for the First Year Consent and Relationship Education (FYCARE) program.  She brings a diverse set of skills including mindfulness-based stress reduction and opiate overdose prevention training. In Fall 2023, Nataly completed her social work field placement with University of Illinois Student Affairs where she helped to coordinate the Women’s Resources Center’s prevention efforts and was part of the Peer Educator Supervisory Group, which included professionals from across campus, focusing on improving campus climate for students. Nataly was awarded the Excellence in Field Award from the School of Social Work for her work with the WRC and was selected to be a keynote speaker at the 2023 Winter Social Work Convocation.  

In this role, Nataly manages the WRC’s robust peer educator program, including coordinating the FYCARE (First Year Consent and Relationship Education), ICARE Bystander Intervention, GUARD, and I Heart Healthy Relationships programs and provide administrative support for activities the University of Illinois’ Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) grant, “Community Solutions to Ending Sexual Misconduct: Coordinating Response and Prevention Efforts”, funded through the Department of Justice’s Grants to Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking on Campus Program.

Nora Peterson

Nora joined the WRC team in May 2021 as Project Director for the Department of Justice Office of Violence Against Women Grants to Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking on Campus Program and served as an expert on stalking prevention and response for the campus. In January 2022, Nora became the Associate Director, Prevention for our campus and oversees the WRC's sexual violence prevention strategy and efforts, including the office’s multiple peer education programs. An experienced educator and anti-violence advocate, Nora holds a Master's degree in Women's and Gender Studies from the Universidad de Granada and Central European University, specializing in gender-based violence, and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Gender Studies from Illinois Wesleyan University.  Before joining the WRC, she served as the inaugural Sexual Violence Prevention Coordinator at Carleton College and as a campus advocate at Montana State University. In her free time, Nora enjoys traveling, learning new languages, writing letters and snuggling with her golden retriever, Reina. 

Gabrielle Schwartz

Gabby earned a master’s degree from Boston University School of Public Health where she concentrated on Health Policy and Law. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Science from the College of Saint Benedict. Gabby is an experienced anti-violence advocate and prevention educator with extensive training in victim assistance, behavioral intervention, anti-oppressive advocacy, and peer educator training. Before joining the WRC, Gabby worked as the inaugural Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Prevention Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where she provided advocacy and support to survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence, and served on campus and community leadership teams to ensure a coordinated response to sexual misconduct, including development of trauma informed campus policies and procedures. When she’s not thinking about advocacy and prevention, Gabby enjoys spending time with her Bernedoodle Georgie, growing her book collection, and traveling to Montana where she hosts the annual We Are Her Survivors Retreat.

Kasey joined the WRC in Fall 2021 as the Interim Director.  In this role, she oversees the Center's gender equity initiatives and provides administrative support to the amazing WRC team leading the WRC's prevention and advocacy work.  An University of Illinois alum, Kasey moved to Champaign in 2001 to study Economics and Political Science (and never left).  She developed a passion for social justice and human rights through her involvement in Amnesty International and an interest in college student leadership development while working as a graduate assistant at the Illinois Leadership Center and the Illini Union.  Those experiences led her to the University YMCA where she worked for over a decade.  While at the Y, Kasey spearheaded innovative scholarship programs, the Bailey International Service Travel Scholarship and the Bailey Unpaid Internship scholarship to support unmet student needs and foster new energy and engagement and expanded financial support for undocumented students.  However, her true passion lies in fostering student leadership and development for social and environmental justice.  She brings over a decade of experience in both formal and informal student advising to her new role at the WRC.  When she isn't at the WRC, Kasey is actively engaged in the C-U community where she serves on the board of FirstFollowers Reentry Program and previously served in the boards of the YWCA - UIUC, Channing-Murray Foundation and Homestead Corporation.  In her free time, Kasey enjoy cycling, reading sci-fi/fantasy novels, and hanging out with the world's most indignant dog, Thoros.

Joan Wingo

Joan, a community volunteer, and former stay-at-home mom joined the WRC in March 2010 as Secretary through the Extra Help Services. Joan is now the Office Manager. Joan ensures that the day-to-day operations of the women’s center run smoothly including greeting callers and visitors, stocking supplies and maintaining equipment, and maintaining program statistics and financial records. Joan completed her bachelor’s degree at Eastern Illinois University. Her interests include Habitat for Humanity and housing issues for women and children.
